Introducing Gulfam Sabri

My name is Gulfam Sabri. I am a professional musician. I'm based in Birmingham and working for Sonia Sabri Company as a musician in residence.

 I have been playing music since childhood. I have learned Tabla and Santoor and also studied Indian vocal music under my father Ustad Sabri Khan Sahab. I come from the lineage of family of traditional musicians from India. I belong to 7th generation of the family serving Indian music. I have been performing since my childhood with my father Ustad Sabri Khan Sahab and my brother Sarvar Sabri.

I really enjoy performing and playing all around the world. I have performed with Indian classical musicians, dance artists, fusion bands, Latin American Afro, Caribbean jazz, Blues. I am looking forward to spreading Indian music to UK and European audiences and also very excited to lead workshops and performances for Sonia Sabri Company.

There are some performances which have very special place in my life. In 1993, I had the opportunity to perform with my father, legendary Sarangi Maestro Ustad Sabri Khan Sahib in Lucknow (India). The concert was organised by Ministry of Culture India to celebrate legends of India Series. The musician who was scheduled had an emergency and couldnot accompany him. One day I was practicing with one of Papa ji's (my father) student in front of him. I think he was happy with my playing and said that he would like me to accompany him for this major concert in Lucknow. It was a dream come true and was one of the best and proudest moments of my life to share the stage with such a great legend.
