Kathak

Kathak Dance in its current form is a blend of Persian and North Indian artistry, which excels in both the narrative and technical elements of dance.

The narrative weaves together intricate hand gesture, mime and facial expression to form layers of striking imagery.The technical vocabulary offers a mosaic of complex rhythmic footwork, rapid spins, clapping and recitations of mnemonic syllables, and geometrical movements. Renowned for its natural and fluid lines combined with energy and vigour, Kathak has much in common with dance styles such as Flamenco (with which it shares historical origins).
