Kathak in its current form is a blend of Persian and North Indian artistry that excels in both the narrative and technical elements of dance.
The narrative weaves together intricate hand gestures, mime and facial expressions to form layers of striking imagery. The technical vocabulary offers a mosaic of complex and rhythmic footwork, rapid spins, clapping and recitations of mnemonic syllables as well as geometrical movements. Renowned for its natural and fluid lines combined with energy and vigour, Kathak has much in common with dance styles as Flamenco (with which it shares historical origins).
